Information Sessions for Sleep Technology and Phlebotomy Programs To Be Held This Week in Lebanon; Again In November

Special Admission Requirements for Winter Start Sleep Technology and Phlebotomy Programs to be Addressed

Linn-Benton Community College has recently announced a delayed start for two of its healthcare programs: Sleep technology and phlebotomy. Both programs will begin in January 2022. Public information sessions about the programs begin this Friday.

A combination of recent factors has created a wealth of opportunity for those looking to enter the healthcare field.

Hospitals are one of the leading industries facing labor shortages plaguing U.S. industries at large. It is not difficult to imagine why, given the increased pressure, personal risk, and long hours created by a worldwide pandemic.

The latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS), released last week, showed that although employment vacancies fell in the US, “quits” hit a new series high going back to December 2000, as 4.3 million workers left their jobs.

Sleep Technology Program

Through the 博天堂官方 Sleep Technology Program, an entering student can be a registered sleep technologist and working in just nine months, in a career with an average starting pay of approximately $23 - $28 per hour.

Small class sizes guarantee a personalized educational experience in this hybrid program that combines online classes with in-person, hands-on skills labs once per week. Graduates of this accredited program are eligible to take the credentialing exam immediately upon successful completion of the program.

There are unique reasons why students may be attracted to this program during a time when others are leaving healthcare: Sleep technologists work in a quiet environment and often only three nights a week; the work allows for one-on-one patient interaction; and a sleep study can make a life-changing difference in a person’s life—in just one night.

Phlebotomy Program

For those who might be looking for a career with a very high chance of employment after graduation, the Phlebotomy Program at 博天堂官方 is another great choice. Phlebotomists can work in hospitals, clinics, blood donation centers, plasma centers, and/or mobile phlebotomy units.

Phlebotomists do more than draw blood; they can perform electrocardiogram (EKGs),  arterial blood gases, capillary punctures for point-of-care-testing, and nasopharyngeal swabs … you may have had one of these recently if you have been tested for COVID-19.

Classes are taught by phlebotomists who currently work in the field, and the program includes a practicum, which is unique for phlebotomy. Students can take advantage of 博天堂官方’s relationships with area laboratories to build their career networks while still in college.

The program is a fast-track to a new career, requiring just ten weeks in the classroom/laboratory, and five weeks at a practicum location.

Upcoming Informational Sessions

In-person information sessions for both programs will be held at the Linn-Benton Community College Healthcare Occupations Center (HOC). The HOC, located at 300 Mullins Drive in Lebanon, opened in 2017 and features truly state-of-the art facilities and equipment.

博天堂官方 faculty will review the programs' special admission requirements and deadlines during the information sessions, held from 1:00-4:00 p.m. in HOC room 150/151, on the following dates:

  • Friday, Oct. 15

  • Friday, Nov. 12

  • Tuesday, Nov. 30

Online application for these programs opens on Oct. 25, 2021. Classes begin Jan. 3, 2022.
